I was invited GOSH Arts to undertake a creative residency at the hospital and create new artwork for the Southwood and Frontage buildings.

Four weeks were spent working with children and clinicians on five wards, researching and running workshops to generate ideas for the redesign of seven lift interiors. Materials and design also had to take into account infection control, long term maintenance, cost implications and accommodate patients' neurological conditions.

The unusual history and design of The Chapel of St. Christopher completed in 1875 and moved as a whole in 1988, was of particular interest. This dazzling Victorian Byzantine interior, inserted idiosyncratically into the hospital environment, informed my redesign of the similarly enclosed small lift spaces.

Final artwork referenced the maximal and highly ornate interior of the chapel, 'Wunderkammers' or Cabinets of Curiosity, and the artwork and narratives created by children during workshops. Francesco Fiorani describes the wunderkammer as 'a microcosm or theatre of the world, and as memory theatre.'
